Starting on August 12th 2019, the Metropolitan Branch Trail will be detoured between Randolph Place NE and just north of New York Avenue NE. As part of the construction of Althea Tanner Park the Met Branch Trail will be repaved, widened, and re-aligned (to eliminate the Z curve at R Street). The park will feature a new connection to the trail at Q Street. The lights along the trail will be replaced and new signage and pavement markings will be added. The detour is expected to be in place through early November. More information about the new park is available here.
While the portion of the trail along the park is being re-constructed, the trail detour will route along Randolph Pl NE to 3rd St NE to Harry Thomas Way NE to a new connection to the trail near Q Street NE. The temporary trail will include a dedicated protected bike lane and a dedicated pedestrian lane. There will be no parking along the east side of Harry Thomas Way NE between Q Street NE and R Street NE, 3rd Street NE between R Street NE and Randolph Place NE, and the south side of Randolph Place NE between 3rd St NE and the Met Branch Trail.
