The District Department of Transportation has completed design plans for the one block section of the Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT) from Piney Branch Rd NW to the Maryland Line along Eastern Avenue. The trail will connect to the existing MBT in the City of Takoma Park.
The trail will include green infrastructure features including permeable asphalt and a bioretention facility that will reduce stormwater runoff. The trail will include new lighting and traffic calming curb extensions. The ten foot wide walking and biking trail will replace the existing sidewalk and curbside lane of unregulated street parking for that one block.
DDOT plans to construct this project later this fall following the completion of the ongoing PEPCO Takoma to Sligo Underground project, which is currently taking place in the same area. A copy of the trail design plans are available here:
