1. Draft of 30% Plans complete.
In early March 2016, DDOT completed a draft of the 30% preliminary engineering plans for the section of the Met Branch Trail from Bates Road to the Fort Totten Metro Station (including the trail spur to Gallatin Street). These plans represent an important next step in the development of this segment of trail. DDOT is currently working to finalize these plans through a design-build contract to move forward to construction in 2017.
DDOT is continuing to work on drafting 30% preliminary engineering on the sections of trail from the Fort Totten Metro Station to Eastern Avenue, with plans anticipated to be drafted in June 2016. DDOT split the project in two, north of Gallatin and south of Gallatin to simplify and expedite the project delivery.
2. Met Branch Trail Safety and Access Study finalized.
The NoMa Business Improvement District, in partnership with DDOT and the Metropolitan Police Department, completed the Metropolitan Branch Trail Safety and Access Study . The study identifies a series of short and long term actions to increase access to the trail, create a sense of identity, and enhance safety for trail users. DDOT has already begun implementing recommendations of the report, including adding mile markers to the trail and incorporating them into the City’s Office of Unified Communications dispatch system, and replacing broken overhead lights with brighter LED lights.
